We fell in love with the bar as soon as we saw it, and although we must be totally mad to take on another bar, aswell as the Mermaid we already have had for 5/6 years, we just could´nt resist buying it,
Closed for over 5 years - this magnificent bar/restaurant was still in good condition but needed repair and a damb good clean.
A lovely couple from Holland had took it on for 11 months, but it had proved just too much for them to finish the good work they had begun - this is where we came in, we got it for a good price aware of the forthcoming expenses that we knew we would have to put into the place to get it back on it´s feet.
Starting with the outside canopy which was held together with pieces of wood and a lot of luck - we had to have the metal frame totally replaced before a good gust of wind could bring it crashing down - the majority of the material was not too bad - but an expensive and urgent job well done.
Previously know as Trobador and then Deugniet...We needed a new name for the bar - we spent weeks trying to come up with something that all nationalities could understand. Thanks to the amount of customers using the word - CHEERS BAR was born.
Then came the licence inspectors...with their list of must do´s in order to get our trading licence
Then we needed to buy loads of stuff like a coffee machine, more inside furniture, seat covers for the terrace, TV, ornaments and pictures - all those things you need to give the place atmosphere and make it a workable bar and restaurant - too many to mention without boring you all to sleep.
We cleaned, scrubbed and had the telephone and computors installed - and set up the music system to play all our favourite sounds.
We spent days setting up our menu´s - John and Michael coming up with the finished product - we think it works well, but we are always adding and trying new dishes.
The price of our drinks are no more expensive than anywhere else - which we hope will please!
Well thats about it....now we are concentrating on building the trade and our good name - fingers crossed it all looks good from here on in.
Thanks to everyone that has helped and mucked in to get us where we are today.
